LED technology
LEDs are tiny electronic chips made from special Semiconductor compounds. If current flows through this solid, it begins to glow, it "emits" light. In lighting technology, this process is called "electroluminescence". With an edge length of around one millimetre, LEDs are among the smallest available light sources. They radiate an almost punctiform light off. Already little energy is sufficient to excite the semiconductors to light up.
Advantages of LED:
- Very low power consumption (over 90 % less energy consumption compared to halogen lamps)
- High luminous efficacy without start-up phase
- Extremely low heat generation
- Extremely long service life
- do not contain any hazardous substances such as mercury
